After the boarding school closed, Edward Bailey bought the land and continued to teach here until declining
health forced him to stop. Later, in the 1860's, he began to grow and mill sugar cane on the site. The
plantation eventually became part of the Wailuku Sugar Plantation. A house was built in 1924 for the
manager of the plantation, and the site was bought in 1991 for the purpose of preserving this piece of history.
It was then given over to the Maui Historical Society, and the history of this part of Maui is kept alive today
through the efforts of its members.
