The Bailey House, built at the base of the lush Iao Valley in the early 19th century,
is open for visitors Monday through Saturday, from 10am to 4pm. The Kamehamehas who
owned the original land had seen the value of western learning, and encouraged the local
people to learn to read. This task was organized by missionaries sent over in the early
part of the century.
